O Death – A Conversation Between Death And The Sinner

Sinner: “Oh, what is this I cannot see
With that dread hand held hold of me?”

Death: “Oh, I am death, none can excel,
I opens the doors of heaven and hell.”

Sinner: “Oh Death, oh Death, how can it be
That I must come and go with thee?
Oh Death, oh Death, how can it be?
I am unprepared for eternity.”

Sinner: "Wait oh Death someone might pray
Could you call some other day?"

Death: "The children prayed the preacher preached
But time & mercy is out of your reach..."

Chorus: Oh, death, Oh, death
Please terry for another year.

Death: “Oh, I have come to take your soul,
To leave your body and leave it cold,
To drop the flesh from off your frame.
The earth and worms both have their claim.”

Sinner: “Oh Death oh Death, if this be true
Please give me time to reason with you.”

Death: “From time to time you’ve heard and saw
I will close your eyes and I’ll lock your jaw.

Chorus:

Death: Thy years and months are past and gone,
You now must stand before the throne
To give account of all the ways,
and how you've spent your youthful days.

Sinner: O death, have mercy on my age
and spare me yet upon this stage.
I'm but a flower just in bloom,
and wilt thou cut me down so soon?

Chorus:

Death: For youth or age I never spare,
if thou but look in yon Churchyard,
You'll see them there in hundreds lay,
whom I have made my sovereign pray.

Sinner: O Death behold my parents dear,
stand 'round my bed with many a tear,
and sloth they are to part with me,
a leafless, fruitless, barren tree.

Chorus:

Death: The tears of friends or parents dear,
can neither blunt nor break my spear,
My name is death, my sting is sin,
Now close thine eyes, and stretch thine limb.

Death: “I’ll lock your jaw so you can’t talk,
I’ll fix your feet so you can’t walk,
I’ll close your eyes so you can’t see,
And this very hour come and go with me.”

Sinner: “Oh Death oh Death, consider my age
And do not take me at this stage.
My wealth is all at your command
If you will move your icy hand.”

Chorus:

Death: “Oh, the old, the young, and the rich and poor
All along with me do have to go
No wage, no wealth, no silver and gold,
Nothing satisfies me but your poor soul.”

Death" “When you was called and asked to bow
You wouldn’t pay heed and it’s too late now.”

Sinner: “Oh Death, oh Death please give me time
To fix my heart and change my mind.”

Death: “When you was called and asked to bow
You wouldn’t pay heed and it’s too late now.”
“Your heart is fixed, your mind is bound
And I have the shackles for to drag you down.”

Sinner: "O spare me Death, a little space,
that I may sun a Christain race.
Me thinks I hear the Saviour say,
O spare him yet another day."

Death: The Lord he hath long spared thee,
a fruitless leafless barren tree,
But heaven's command I must obey,
and cut thee down this very day."

Sinner: “Too late, too late, to all farewell,
My soul is damned, I’m summonsed to hell.
As long as god in heaven do dwell
My soul, my soul shall scream in hell.”

Chorus:

Death: "Old man to you, now I go,
Tell me, have you prepared your soul?"

Chorus2: O death, where is thy sting?
O grave, where is thy victory?

Saint: "Oh Death, no mercy wilt thou show,
but unto Jesus I will go
Who rose triumphant from the grave,
a guilty wretch like me to save."

Death: "Though sin consigned thee to the grave,
Jesus has died thy soul to save,
His blood did flow in streams divine,
to save that guilty soul of thine."

Chorus2:

Saint: "Now, Death thy sting I do defy,
for lo! I see my Saviour nigh,
Draw near, O Death, and strike the blow,
and let me to my Saviour go.

Glory to God, I now do see
that Death becomes a friend to me,
To take me from this world of woe,
and let me to my Saviour go.

Chorus2:

Saint: Now all my friends whom I love dear,
I hope you will to Christ draw near,
And do not shed a tear for me,
in heaven with Christ is where I'll be.

My dying words do not forget,
but turn before it is too late,
And seek the Lord until you find
a change of heart and peace of mind.

My weeping friends I now must part,
give me thy hand, give God thy heart,
Youdying weeds do not forget,
but turn before it is too late,
And seek the lord until you find
a change of heart and peace of mind.

Chorus2:
