Gideon’s Band

Written in 1861, there are two versions of this song. The original put together by Chas. R. Dodworth, (I am not sure of who wrote the second version). and the tune put to multiple civil war songs and at least one children’s song about Noah.

Gideon’s Band #1 Lyrics

(1) Oh keep your hat upon your head (x3), for you may want it when your dead.

(2) Oh keep your nose upon your face (x3), for anywhere else is out of place.

(3) Oh keep your pants upon your legs (x3), so you may hang them on some golden pegs.

(4) Oh keep your shoes upon your feet (x3), so that you may walk down the golden street.

(5) Oh stick your toenails in the ground (x3), so that if your wanted you may be found.

(6) Oh keep your money in your pocket (x3), so when it’s wanted you’ve not forgotten it.

(7) Twix you and I, I really think (x3), it’s pretty near time to take a drink.

(8) Twix you and I, I really think (x3), this song’s getting kinda long now don’t you think?
